Scrawl from The Saw’s Butcher Shop: Get in the Ring — Amon Amarth (2022) SINGLE REVIEW

What’s up, Butcher Crew?! It’s ya girl, your Master Butcher, The Saw, and I’ve stopped by really quick to bring you another New Single Review. The KINGS of Melodic (Viking) Death Metal, Amon Amarth, are back with a new track, and an announcement of a new album coming in August. So, let’s ROW! to foreign shores and reap the benefits of the warring hordes!

The Great Heathen Army (Metal Blade) is due to drop on August 5, 2022. “Get in the Ring” is the leading single for the album, and it slaps! It is a compilation, as it were, of everything you’ve come to expect from Amon Amarth – Heavy, crushing riffs; insane guitar harmonies; guitar solo take-offs, melodic and memorable; precision drumming, driving bass work; incredible deep register gutterals from Johan, and story-telling genius.

The video for “Get in the Ring” was written for, and features AEW pro wrestler, Erick Redbeard. The video has a post-apocalyptic feel to it; the mythical times after the collapse of government and modern civilization. On one hand, its appearance seems historically Viking. On the other hand, the weapons (flame throwers and automatic rifles from previous wars) are far removed from the historical Viking days. But then again, the old-school ass whoopin’ issued by Redbeard is a universal throughout time!

According to the band, The Great Heathen Army is one of their heaviest – more, Death Metal – records. They say it is a return to their roots, with all the things you expect from Amon Amarth, and with a few surprises, too.

You already know ya Girl will have a New Album Review when The Great Heathen Army drops!

Stay Metal,

THE SAW
