Scrawl from The Saw’s Butcher Shop: Story Time with The Saw — Bloody Valentine

What’s up, Butcher Crew?! It’s ya girl, The Saw! And welcome to another installment of Story Time with The Saw, your one and only place to get the inside scoop on Your Master Butcher. Recently, on-air, I was talking about how, for various reasons, I would not be able to make it to see one of my favorites – the Black Metal titans, Dark Funeral – during their North American Tour with Cannibal Corpse, Immolation, and Black Anvil. But not-to-worry, because the O.G. and “Buzz-Saw” (aka, my parents) made the trip to Tampa, FL to see the last night of the tour (December, 10, 2022).

So, they flew out of Raleigh, NC early on Saturday morning, landing in Tampa. They spent the day sight-seeing, and spent the evening at the show; getting a few hours of sleep at the hotel, they flew back to Raleigh early Sunday morning. The O.G. will write a Show Review for The Saw’s Butcher Shop, especially since Cannibal Corpse is one of his Top Five bands, Dark Funeral is his favorite Black Metal band, and he loves Immolation from back in the day!

Anyway, this whole thing reminds me of the Valentine’s Day show my parents and I saw in 2016. I was 16 and a Junior in high school. My dad decided to take my Mom and me out for Valentine’s Day. So, we drove to Ziggy’s by The Sea in Wilmington, NC to see Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, and Cryptopsy! What a great Bloody Valentine’s!

My parents do not care to be in the pit anymore so you can always find them in VIP, which was in the balcony at this club. We saw Corpsegrinder (vocalist for Cannibal Corpse) up there. When I said his name, he turned and looked at me, but I lost my nerve (I was a shy-Saw in those days). Oh! And my mom accidentally elbowed Donald Tardy (drummer for Obituary) in the face when he walked by! We had a great time, and it was a great show!

So, the moral to the story is that Valentine’s Day is for romance, and romance comes in many different forms and fashions. For us, a bloody Valentine’s is what it’s all about! A night of Death Metal. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Stay Metal,

THE SAW
