Scrawl from The Saw’s Butcher Shop: Acid Vat -Corpsegrinder NEW SINGLE/HEAVY BREAKDOWN

Welcome to The Saw’s Butcher Shop, Butcher Crew. The Saw is here bearing gifts! On December 24, 2021 George ‘Corpsegrinder’ Fisher (Cannibal Corpse) dropped a new single, “Acid Vat,” with a lyric video from his upcoming solo debut, Corpsegrinder, due for a February release. Guitarist Erik Rutan (Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal) is featured on the song, and delivers a devastating performance as usual. Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed) co-produced the record, and his new label, Perseverance Music Group, is releasing the LP.

The Man

George Fisher was born on July 8, 1970, in Baltimore Maryland. He was a drillers assistant in Baltimore before he became known, literally, to the world, as ‘Corpsegrinder’. In the late 80s, he was in one of his earliest bands, Corpsegrinder (taken from a Death song by the same name). Fisher moved to Florida in 1990 and joined Monstrosity (’90 – ’96), where his vicious vocal skills began to be noticed on a larger scale.

His style is characterized as a “Death growl” extended vocal technique, but even that does not accurately describe his method. In a sense, his vocals are gutteral, but they are so unique that one must invent a new category – ‘Corpsegrinder’. Fisher’s vocals are a deep register holler, crystal clear in enunciation, usually delivered at a rapid pace (though beautifully delivered in a slow tortuous cadence, as well), accentuated with an ear-splitting scream. Corpsegrinder’s vocal delivery is progressively forceful, powerful and devastating. One of the most unique and vicious voices in all music.

In 1991, Corpsegrinder made his first (official) studio appearance on Suffocation’s debut album, Effigy of the Forgotten, in the songs, “Mass Obliteration” and “Reincarnation.”

In 1995, on the departure of Chris Barnes (Six Feet Under) from Cannibal Corpse, George ‘Corpsegrinder’ Fisher became the new vocalist for the band.

He has performed guest vocals on numerous tracks, including, “Control,” (Suicide Silence), “The Synthetic Sea” (Job for a Cowboy), “Take Your Pick” (Ice Nine Nails), and “Time to Choose” (Dee Snider).

Fisher does guest appearances in the animated series, Metalocalypse, where he lends his voice to The Metal Masked Assassin. He is the inspiration for the character, Nathan Explosion, the vocalist for Dethklok. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King incorporated a non-player character, named “Gorge the Corpsegrinder.”

As of this publishing, Corpsegrinder is the vocalist for the kings of Death Metal, Cannibal Corpse; he is the vocalist for the Melodic Death Metal band, Paths of Possession; he is the vocalist for the Extreme Metal supergroup, Serpentine Dominion, and; now, he is the vocalist for his own solo work, Corpsegrinder.

So, if his vocal technique wasn’t enough, Corpsegrinder is known everywhere for his stage performances. If he is not laying waste with his vocal delivery, he is setting records with his wind milling and violent head banging skills! It is an incredible sight to see! He keeps pace with the time-stamp of any particular song, and with Cannibal Corpse, that means, literal, break-neck speed!

Thus, Corpsegrinder has a HUGE neck, which dwarfs his head that sits atop! I have seen him, in person, both on and off stage, and it is really that huge! Not one to let an opportunity pass, Corpsegrinder has capitalized on the fascination with his neck, beginning July of this year (2021), “Respect the Neck” apparel is available.

Now for the irony: Corpsegrinder is the professional persona for the private person, George Fisher. This concept is often difficult for people to understand. George Fisher is married and has two daughters. He loves to play The Claw Machine games wherever he goes, winning all the stuffed animals he can, and then donates them to children’s outreach. The internet is full of visual proof of this side of the man. And by all accounts, both personally and professionally, George ‘Corpsegrinder’ Fisher is just a super guy, willing to speak to and spend time with anyone.

The Album and Single

Corpsegrinder is a mix of Death Metal, Thrash, and Hardcore that is heavy as hell,” says Corpsegrinder. “Working with George was a dream come true,” says Jamey Jasta. The full-length LP is due to drop in late February, 2022. “If the single is any indication, this record will be bangin’!” – The Saw

Acid Vat” begins as you would expect: quick paced, with Corpsegrinder’s vocal destruction. Then, at the 1:16 mark there is a smooth, old-school style transition into a wicked riff and groove that will make you move. Then, at the 2:31, the tempo changes again with an awesome Hardcore hook. The chorus is plainly Hardcore influenced, Corpsegrinder style. The lyrics are straightforward – someone has broken their word, and now must pay the price:

“Into the Acid Vat, you shall go!”

“Into the Acid Vat, no one else can know!”

Catchy!!
