Scrawl from The Saw’s Butcher Shop: Behemoth — Off to War! (2022) SINGLE REIVEW

Welcome to The Saw’s Butcher Shop, Butcher Crew! I’ve dropped in, quickly, again, to alert you to another new single from Behemoth. Opvs Contra Natvram is due to drop in September via Nuclear Blast. The newest single is entitled, “Off to War!” and is accompanied by a wicked animated video.

“Off to War!” is a banger; the typical sort you’d expect to hear from Behemoth. The track begins with otherworldly horns, powerfully delivered vocals, a vicious drum attack, another awesome solo by Nergal, and ends with a surprise Thrash/Core sound. The video is very dark and ominous. Behemoth have become masters of site, as well as sound. Their ability to cast a narrative of Behemoth’s POV is almost uncanny.

Nergal states that, “militant times call for militant music.” And this song, as well as the leading single, “Ov My Herculean Exile,” both echo that sentiment, and redefine what it means to make “militant music.” I am excited about this new record!

Sample Lyrics from “Off to War!”:

Am I of God, Satan, or an obsidian hemisphere?

Am I the fated sovereign or sanctitude inverse?

Consider the great solitude of the truly liberated man.

Set forth to raze frail humanity again.

Why are we such tender flesh under blackening skies?

Are we defenseless prey in a predator’s eyes?

Can we stay stalwart in the face of fated tragedy?

Are we to remain subjugated by fictitious morality?

Host of the ones condemned

Dethrone God malevolent

Hear the cannons roar

We are off to War!

Stay Metal,
