Butcher Crew! It’s ya girl, The Saw! And I’m checking in to make sure you know about the, not one but, two new releases from some legends of Death Metal, Obituary. Diehard Obit fans know that, during the Pandemic of C-19, Obituary performed live streams of their sentinel first two albums – Slowly We Rot and Cause of Death. It was incredible to see and hear. Near perfection in performance and quality, these events were crucial experiences for weary fans.
Obituary haven’t lost a step in the 35+ years since their debut. In fact, it could be said that they’ve gained a step – in musicianship, song structure, and lyrical content. Yet, at the same time, they are true to the sights and sounds that earned them their legendary status as a major influence in the development of Death Metal, both back in the day, and still today.
Via Relapse Records, Obituary has released live performances of their first two albums, recorded during the Pandemic live streams, on July 13, 2022. Slowly We Rot – Live and Rotting and Cause of Death – Live Infection are these two classic records, in their entirety, recorded and performed with modern technology. The streaming versions are already available and they sound incredible! In this sense, “live” doesn’t mean it’s the normal live recording, before an audience, at a show. It is a “live” recording of the entire band, playing together, in one room; a modern rendition of two classic records (plus some bonus tracks not on the originals). Awesome!
Be sure to hit-up the Relapse website to take advantage of the special pricing for limited edition pressings, bundles, CDs, and vinyl. The O.G. himself (aka, my dad), who buys everything that Obituary markets, has already secured my copies of limited-edition vinyl of these two albums. I know Obituary, personally, and they are great guys and, of course, one of the best bands ever! I’m so proud!
Stay Metal,
THE SAW
