Scrawl from The Saw’s Butcher Shop: Megadeth — Night Stalkers (feat. Ice T) SINGLE REVIEW 2022

What’s up, Butcher Crew? Ya girl, The Saw wanted to make sure you knew that we have another new single from Megadeth, “Night Stalkers [feat. Ice T].” This is the second single drop from the Thrash masters; “We’ll Be Back” is a banger, and this new song (and video) pick right up on the vibe. “Night Stalkers” is another teaser as we await the release of Megadeth’s 16th full length album, The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead due to drop on September 2, 2022 (UMe).

“Night Stalkers” begins with a slight but distinct sound of an incoming Blackhawk helicopter, before Dave’s vocals over a ripping riff take over. There is a mid-pace (for Megadeth) riff that drives this track all the way through. Verbeuren gives us a glimpse of his drumming chops on this song, as double bass and snare match notes in the riff. The bass guitar is very discernable, holding up the bottom-end of the riff. Live, this bottom-end will be personified by Lomenzo. Ice T makes his presence known about halfway through the track with a quick cadence of spoken word – very much done in his trademark style. Once again, “Night Stalkers” has several guitar solos (of varying speed) by Kiko and Dave. About ¾ of the way through the song we have our first, true tempo change – several times the bridge is a slight change-up. Acoustic guitar and strings signal a full time change, followed by a rolling bass guitar line, before returning to the main riff.

If you didn’t know, this song is based on the Night Stalkers, the US Army’s Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR). The video for “Night Stalkers” is Part 2 of a trio of videos accompanying the build-up to the release of the album. I’m excited for the release of this record, it’s sure to put Megadeth back at the top of the THRASH heap once again!

Stay Metal,
