Welcome to The Saw’s Butcher shop! Ya Girl is here with another Single Review from a band we haven’t heard from in 13 years. On February 22, 2023, Daath released, “No Rest No End,” marking their freshly inked contract with Metal Blade Records. This song is a banger! Very eclectic, categorically – the new track fuses elements of Thrash, Progressive, and Black Metal with a hint of Deathcore, (at least) vocally.
Daath formed in Atlanta, GA in 2004. Founded by Eyal Levi (guitar) and Mike Kameron (keyboard, vocals), Daath evolved out of several other bands (for example, Dirt Nap) which the two had been a part of since middle school. Levi, interestingly, is the son of conductor Yoel Levi, who has held the title of Resident Conductor for the Cleveland Orchestra, music director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Principal Conductor of Brussels Philharmonic; he has conducted in Israel, France, and South Korea, and he currently conducts the Haifa Symphony Orchestra.
That influence can be heard in the new single, “No Rest No End.” Different elements of music make this song really interesting, and really good! Overall, the track is very progressive and orchestral, with layers consisting of killer riffs, fast tremolo picking, lifting keyboards, horns, incredible guitar solos and harmonies, Deathcore-like gutterals (as well as cleans), and very smooth drum licks and double-bass. The new song very-much speaks to where we find ourselves, today, in Extreme Metal – blurring categorical lines and pushing the envelope of traditional genres.
Another interesting aspect of the band is that it has had many line-up changes. For example, in 2011, Emil Werstler (bass, guitar) left to fill the vacant spot in Chimaira. A year later, Werstler would get the lead guitar role in Chimaira, and Jeremy Creamer (bass) would fill the bass role. Sean Zatorsky (keyboards, vocals) left, at least temporarily, to join Chimaira as well. By 2022, Zatorsky was back in Daath, and Kerim Lechner (Septic Flesh) was on the drums.
Daath is:
- Eyal Levi – guitar, synthesizer (2004 – present)
- Sean Zatorsky – vocals (2008 – present)
- Kerim Lechner – drums (2022 – present)
- Jesse Zuretti – orchestration, guitar (2022 – present)
- Dave Marvuglio – session bass (2022 – present)

- Futility – self-released (2004)
- The Hinderers – Roadrunner (2007)
- The Concealers – Century Media (2009)

We are expecting a new E.P. from Daath soon! And I am excited to hear it! Until then, Ya Girl will have “No Rest No End” on repeat!
Stay Metal,
THE SAW
