Scrawl from The Saw’s Butcher Shop: We’ll Be Back — Megadeth (2022) SINGLE REVIEW

What’s up, Butcher Crew? It’s The Saw, bringing you another New Single Review, “We’ll Be Back,” by the OGs of Thrash Metal – Megadeth! It’s been six years since we’ve gotten any new material from Dave Mustaine (vocals, guitars). The new full-length has been in the works for a while, but Dave’s throat cancer diagnosis (and recovery!) held-up the album. There was also the drama of long-time bassist, David Ellefson, which delayed things. And after Dystopia (2016), ex-Lamb of God drummer, Chris Adler, split from Megadeth, and Dirk Verbeuren joined to take the throne. One more for ya, former Megadeth bassist James Lomenzo is back! Though he didn’t record on the new record, he’s live with the band.

The new single (and lyrical video for), “We’ll Be Back,” is a THRASH assault of the ear-holes! For old school Megadeth fans, it’s a throwback to the early days – Killing is my business…And Business is Good (1985) and Peace Sells, But Who’s Buying? (1986). Megadeth, it seems, is back with a vengeance (as the lyrics to the single suggest)!

“We’ll Be Back,” for the first-half of the track, is a scorching, Thrash riff. The chorus switches gears, in newer Megadeth fashion, only to change to a different riff – slower but nasty throughout the rest of the song. Meanwhile, numerous guitar solos (a couple by Kiko Loureiro, and a couple by Dave) litter the decimated airwaves most of the way through. Simply Awesome!

“We’ll Be Back” is the last song on the new full-length album (their 16th), The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead, due to drop on September 2, 2022 via Universal Music Group (UMe). Megadeth launched a website for the new record, and there is another video out called, “We’ll Be Back: Chapter I – Megadeth.” Dave says it’s the story of the band’s mascot, Vic Rattlehead; his development and origins.

It seems as though Megadeth are all-in! Ya girl will be back with a review of the full-length when it is released, so be on the look-out!

Stay Metal,

THE SAW
